SmartWay Trailer

Alliance Premium Auxiliary Power Unit
Alliance Parts, the private label brand of Freightliner LLC, has introduced the 2007 Alliance Premium Auxiliary Power Unit (APU).The Alliance Premium APU reduces pollution and complies with anti-idling laws while providing 12,000 BTUs of air conditioning, 10,000 BTUs of heating and 3,300 watts of 110 volt electricity to ensure driver comfort. Its one-cylinder engine, the only one in the industry, burns just one-tenth of a gallon of fuel an hour, saving drivers money on fuel. The Alliance Premium APU also offers design advantages by using a free-standing system that operates independently of the factory OEM HVAC system. |

Battery-Powered Air Conditioning
Dometic Environmental Corporation has developed a new battery-powered auxiliary air conditioning system, designed specifically for day cabs, in response to growing demand for cost-effective solutions to reduce idling while waiting to load and unload at terminals. The Dometic air conditioning system consists of a compressor/evaporator/blower unit that fits between the seats, and a ruggedized external condensing unit that mounts on the back of the cab or under the truck. |

ComfortGuard APU
Cummins Inc. has doubled the oil change interval from 500 hours to 1,000 hours for its ComfortGuard Auxiliary Power Unit (APU), which will improve uptime for truck and fleet owners while cutting maintenance costs in half. The recommendation comes after extensive testing in conjunction with the engine supplier, Kubota, to ensure there was no degradation in performance or longevity. |

Kohler 7APU
Kohler Power Systems brings its second auxiliary power unit (APU) product to the market with its 7APU generator and climate control package. The KOHLER 7APU is one of the highest powered APUs on the market today, and features a stand-alone design that doesn’t require intrusion into the truck’s other systems when being installed. It provides 120-volts of AC and 45-Amps of DC power, enough to run heating and cooling, charge the truck’s battery, and run a variety of electronic equipment such as TVs, microwaves and a block heater. This side-rail mounted APU provides 6.5kW output, weighs less than 540 pounds and measures at 26-in. W x 29-in. H x 24-in. D (from frame rail). |

MP7 and MP8 Engines
MACK® MP7 and MP8 engines have been certified to meet California's 2008 criteria to limit emissions of nitrogen oxides (NOx) while idling. This means Mack customers with compliant engines will not have to shut down their engines after five minutes of idling as otherwise required by California regulations which took effect earlier this year. The California Air Resources Board requires trucks to stop idling after no more than five minutes, under most circumstances. |

N.I.T.E. System
The NITE system (No Idle Thermal Environment) is a battery operated 12vdc air conditioner with an optional fuel fired heater. The system mounts under the bunk in the sleeper and uses either our NITE duct work or in some model trucks the NITE system can use the factory ducting. Natural Gas-fueled Set-Back 113 Tractor
Sterling Truck Corporation has rolled out a new natural gas (NG)-fueled tractor. The Sterling® Set-Back 113 fueled with Natural Gas is ideal for port operations, as well as natural gas utilities and municipalities. An OEM factory-built product, this truck is powered by the Cummins Westport ISL G. Natural gas technology can save an estimated $6,000 in annual fuel and operating costs per truck. Customers in states such as California will also benefit from tax incentives for alternative fuel vehicles. Fuel providers take advantage of these incentives, too, which means that accessibility to NG fuel is on the rise. |

SmartWay Tractor
Volvo Trucks North America has partnered with the Environmental Protection Agency to develop a comprehensive package of vehicle components for the Volvo VN to deliver high fuel efficiency and low emissions, as part of EPA’s new SmartWay™ tractor program. Trucks ordered with this set of components are eligible to receive EPA’s SmartWay Tractor designation. The required components will be specially identified in Volvo’s truck ordering system so that carriers participating in the SmartWay program can ensure their new trucks qualify for EPA’s public designation. |

Peterbilt’s two most aerodynamic trucks, the Models 387 and 386, have been recognized as fuel efficient and environment friendly by the Environmental Protection Agency’s SmartWay program, which establishes a comprehensive set of fuel-saving, low-emission equipment specifications for new Class 8 long-haul tractors and trailers. Freightliner Trucks announced that the Cascadia™ has been designated as SmartWay®-certified by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Cascadia marks the third Freightliner Class 8 truck – along with the Columbia® and Century Class® S/T – to earn this certification. SmartWay is a voluntary program for the transportation industry that establishes incentives for fuel efficiency improvements and greenhouse gas emissions reductions. Trucks that earn the SmartWay designation can be 10 to 20 percent more fuel efficient and up to 90 percent cleaner than comparable models. |

Wabash National Corporation has announced that its DuraPlate® dry van trailer meets the technical specifications for the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) SmartWay® certification mark. Hyundai Translead, a leading manufacturer of dry and refrigerated van trailers, domestic containers, container chassis, and converter dollies, has announced its acceptance into the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) SmartWay Transport Partnership Program as a producer of an EPA SmartWay Certified dry freight van trailer. Hyundai Translead can now produce the HT Original dry van trailer to EPA SmartWay specifications for customers wishing to reduce their carbon footprint and save fuel. |

ATDynamics, Inc. announces the commercial launch of the TrailerTail®, an aerodynamic device proven to increase fuel efficiency of long-haul tractor-trailers by greater than 5 percent.
