ConocoPhillips’ new HDEO products field-proven

Testing of ConocoPhillips’ two premium heavy duty engine oils with Liquid Titanium - Guardol ECT and Kendall Super-D XA - continue to demonstrate the benefits from the new exclusive technology incorporated into these synthetic blend CJ-4 products.

The oils already provided “excellent soot control, enhanced corrosion and wear protection and outstanding low temperature benefits,” said Steve Tarbox, director, product management, ConocoPhillips. With the built-in protective power of the chemical additive liquid titanium, there is enhanced wear protection, improved corrosion control and reduced oil oxidation.

“Liquid Titanium is an ingredient in the oil formulation that actively participates in the wear control within the engine,” he explained. “It acts as an extra molecular protective shield to lessen wear in contact zones.

“Testing has shown that rather than coating everything in an engine, Liquid Titanium migrants and bonds to critical parts for reduced wear.”

Among the results from its testing, and testing required by engine manufacturers and API, it was found that the Liquid Titanium-enriched Guardol ECT and Kendall Super-D XA products produced a reduction in cam lobe and crosshead wear, better wear control for better engine protection capability, a decrease in bearing weight loss, increased oxidation and thermal stability for prolonged engine oil life and reduced deposits.

These findings have been corroborated in extensive field testing that has been carried out since before the January introduction of the two oils, said Reginald Dias, the company’s director, commercial product. The testing is continuing.

The oils have been tested in a number of commercial fleets, in several different engine platforms and vehicle types and in vehicles operating under different conditions and service types. All tests have been monitored by used oil analysis.
