Construction Company Credits Biodiesel for Success

Earthwise Excavation of Snohomish, Washington (northeast of Seattle) began using biodiesel in its construction fleet in November 2001 and since then has used more than 100,000 gallons of biodiesel (B99 summer & B75 winter). The company uses biodiesel in excavators, dump trucks, loaders, backhoes, bulldozers and diesel pick-ups.

According to President Albert Postema, "While the normal construction industry has collapsed, the green building interest and eco-minded people have increased. Our usage of biodiesel and being a green company has saved us from possible financial disaster."

Postema went on to say the public and business interest in green technologies has translated into the green-oriented aspect of their business increasing this year, bucking all trends. "Before the financial collapse, green building and/or green supportive customers made up only 40 percent of our work," he said. "Green building now makes up 85 percent of our work. Had it not been for the continued green building and our biodiesel usage, we might not be having this conversation. So it can easily be said that biodiesel usage and being a green business has saved us from financial ruin."
